Description: Please join me for three days of fall backpacking in the Linville Gorge Wilderness. The trip will begin at the parking lot below Table Rock Mountain on Monday, October 17. The first day’s hike will be 5.1 miles along the rim of Linville Gorge to a campsite on Shortoff Mountain. The next day, Tuesday, will be a 7.8 mile hike down the MST, across the Linville River (a wet crossing), and then upstream to a campsite in the gorge. The third day will be a 6.6 mile hike up and out from the Gorge and back to Table Rock Mountain. After enjoying the view from Table Rock (if the weather is clear), a short hike will bring us back to the parking lot below Table Rock. This trip will not be cancelled for weather short of the apocalypse. No permits are required since this is a weekday hike. Moderately strenuous; 23 miles total distance; 6,955 feet ascent; 6,709 feet descent. Please contact Vance Barron no later than Friday, October 15.
