Description: We jokingly call this hike Scott Ridge Lite, as it is a shorter, more forgiving version of David Memory’s signature Scott Ridge hike in the Stone Mountain backcountry. We have done this hike in all seasons, and it never disappoints. As a number of you know, I am a fan of hiking among the lush beauty of rhododendrons, mountain laurels, ferns, running cedar, and soft, forest ground strewn with fragrant pine needles. And this hike offers all that. Not to mention the chance for a lunch break in open terrain surrounded by peaks bathed in the blue mist of our beautiful mountains. The hike starts at milepost 234 on the Parkway and loops around Scott Ridge. It is a benign experience: two or three long but gentle ascents and one short moderately steep ascent. In other words, it is a hike where you can relax and enjoy the ride. NOTE: I will send a confirming email to all participants by 6:00 pm on the day before the hike (Friday).
