Description: In French we call this hike “le tour du rocher du chien.” To join this hike, however, you will not be asked to memorize this complicated Gallic terminology but can simply say “I’m going to do the Tour de Wolf Rock”, because that’s what you will be doing, going around Wolf Rock. On the way, you will be treated to some off-trail walking that branches off the Black Jack trail and joins an old bridle path, get a glimpse of a disabled still, and cross a few streams before pausing to visit the Hutchinson homestead. This is a lollipop hike that starts and ends on the Mountain-to-Sea Trail (the stick of the lollipop) from the backpackers’ parking lot. This is a moderate, scenic, varied, and lengthy hike suitable for most hikers with some experience in mountain walking.
