Description: The Dutchman’s Creek area of the Birkhead Wilderness, about an hour from the Triad, is a great late autumn hike, when the beautifully haunting woods, lazy stream, and occasional rock outcropping are preparing for their winter solitude. Although this hike is overall moderately easy, it offers a couple of short steep ups and downs, which will be perfect, two days after Thanksgiving, for melting away the extra pounds added by the turkey stuffing, candied yams, and multiple slices of delicious pie to your otherwise well-toned bodies. This is a suitable hike for almost anyone who can tackle a double-digit hike, without having to worry about unending climbs and eroded terrain.
