Today’s hike was much different. And it was different because I did it with my idol and my role model. Today, I walked foot-by-foot, after 22 years since I’ve seen her, with the most powerful and revolutionary person in my life - my third grade teacher, Ms. Dolores Simril Neil, aka “Mama Dee.” Mama Dee set me on a path when I was younger - a path that I will be eternally grateful for - and finally, that path winded its way right back across her’s. We had been e-mailing after reconnecting over Facebook and she invited me out to this absolutely stunning hike today.
The pictures you see are of an up and coming trail which the EVTA is currently growing and developing. It was my honor to make this hike today and bless my eyes with the stunning vistas. You can travel all around the world, but there’s just something about the beauty of your home. The foothills called to me today, and I ran to them.
