Description:  Please join me for a mid-week late summer hike north of Boone as we try to escape the dog days of summer. For the first part of the hike, we will begin at an elevation of 4,569 ft and climb a challenging uphill out and back trail which includes many switchbacks up to a summit. At the summit we will take in views of the Amphibolite Mountains seeing north to Virginia and south to Mount Mitchell if we are given a day without clouds. The leg back will be downhill and a beautiful walk in the forest. We will take a restroom and lunch break in the park before beginning the second part, backcountry trail. Hiking poles might be needed in navigating this old logging road with a couple of stream crossings. We can follow the creek upstream for a little waterfall gazing and enjoy the open forest before heading back.

I will email registrants to confirm carpool location and start time on Thursday prior.
