Description: Atop the highest peak east of the Mississippi, come and stake your claim! Our strenuous journey will begin at the foot of Mt. Mitchell at the Black Mountain Campground at 9:00am. Together, we will make the arduous climb onwards and upwards along the Mt. Mitchell trail, merge with the Buncombe Horse Range trail, then continue the Mt. Mitchell trail all the way up to the observation tower where we’ll enjoy a hearty and well-deserved lunch before making our way back down. The views here are unparalleled and little else offers quite the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction as making this mammoth of a climb. As we like to say: “Mt. Mitchell has its own weather” so I encourage you to watch the forecast for Mitchell’s rapidly changing weather patterns and keep in mind, Mitchell’s elevation is the Canadian climate zone. I will message all the registered folks with carpool details as we approach our date. Let’s plan on having a nice hearty dinner and a crisp “trail-cap” at Moondog’s afterwards!
