Description:
Please join me for a mid-week hike north of Boone in search of flaming azaleas setting the mountain top on fire. For the first part of the outing, we will begin at an elevation of 4,500 ft and climb a challenging uphill out and back trail which includes many switchbacks up to a summit. At the summit we will take in stunning views of the Amphibolite Mountains seeing north to Virginia and south to Mount Mitchell if we are given a day without clouds. The leg back will be downhill and a beautiful walk in the forest. We will get back into our cars and head to Boone for wood-fired pizza and seasonal fare paired with craft beer at the Lost Province Brewing Co. I will email registrants to confirm carpool location and start time on Thursday prior.
