Description: Grayson Highlands/Mt. Rogers area loop: Please join me for a moderately paced 10.4 mile loop in the beautiful Mt. Rogers wilderness area. The hike includes open meadows with panoramic views, rocky peaks, wooded mountain sides and plenty of rhododendrons, mountain laurels and wild azaleas. June is great time to visit this area with many of the bushes in full bloom. The route will be the traditional loop. Starting at Massey Gap, then proceeding north on the AT to Pine Mountain. Then we will take the Pine Mountain Trail to Rhododendron Gap where will reconnect to the AT. The hike will conclude by taking the AT north back to Massey Gap. I have not seen many ponies the last couple times I have been to this area, but hopefully if we are lucky we will also see some wild ponies. There is a $10.00 per car parking fee.
