Description:
The plan is for a four-day, three-night backpacking trip in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The 33-mile loop hike will start at the Road to Nowhere and go to Campsite 63 on upper Noland Creek. The next day will be up Forney Ridge Trail to the Appalachian Trail and past Clingman’s Dome to Double Springs Gap shelter. The third day will be down Welsh Ridge and Jonas Creek to Campsite 71 on Forney Creek. The concluding day, we will return to the Road to Nowhere. There is a maximum group size of six persons for this trip. Park Service permits are $4.00 per person per campsite ($12 total per person). Please notify Vance Barron no later than October 21 if you would like to go. The route may have to be modified based on spaces available at the campsites. If the group decides to make it a three-day trip, the last two days will be combined. Be prepared for a moderately strenuous hike. 33 miles
