Description: Come hike about 4-5 miles of trail on the 165-acre Caraway Creek Preserve near Asheboro that the Piedmont Land Conservancy has opened in May 2023. We will hike the established trails and also get an opportunity to hike the new trails that have recently been finished. Much of the hike is rolling terrain through mature oak-hickory-beech forest. Native Americans used this area for villages and the Indian Trading Path came through the area. There is an impressive 240-foot 19th century rock dam that you will see. [R estimate 10-12] Directions: 829 Jerico Rd. Asheboro, NC (35.742521702°N 79.92509°W) Please e-mail or text that you are coming. One way to get there is to south on I-73/US 220 to Asheboro, exit 72-B, and right at the stop. Follow US 64 west for about 5 miles. Pass the Asheboro Country Club entrance and turn right on Old Lexington Rd, then an immediate left on Jarvis Miller Rd. Follow this for 1 mile, then left on Jerico Rd. and in ¼ mile left into a parking lot. We will have lunch at The Table in Asheboro after the hike. Hike is limited to 10 as the restaurant has limited seating, is a local favorite and Saturday is their busiest day. Contact me via text at 336-708-8230 or dwpet50@triad.rr.com to let me know you are coming.
