Description: Come climb with me atop two unlikely mountains that rupture the rolling hills of the Piedmont! On Saturday November 9th, I intend to hike at Morrow Mountain State Park at 9:00am. Together, we will start our hike within the dense and lush forests of the Uwharrie Mountains and make our way to Morrow’s pinnacle. We’ll explore the backcountry via an old horse trail and then make our way up the backside of Sugarloaf – a steady and worthy climb – before returning to our vehicles. Don’t let the rating of this hike fool you – the climb up both Morrow and Sugarloaf are sharp, steep and nothing to sneeze at. We’ll enjoy both a good workout as well as a panoramic view of the Yadkin Valley basin, where the Yadkin cuts through the rolling hills of the Piedmont and flows nobly into its name: the Pee Dee, at this auspicious juncture amid the hills. I will message all registrants regarding carpool details closer to time. I cannot wait to explore this gem of a State Park hidden within the hills of the Piedmont with you! After the hike, I will hold a social hour at The Five Points Public House in nearby Albemarle and would love all who can to join me there, so please plan carpools accordingly! 10.15 miles, 1716 ft elev.
