Description:
Come hike with me where the rushing waters of the Linville River have riven deeply over the eons to form the “Grand Canyon of the East” – the Linville Gorge. This strenuous journey will take us on a comprehensive tour around Hawksbill Mountain and Table Rock Mountain, which are the two most iconic peaks along Jonas Ridge and will offer an awe-inspiring, panoramic, 360 degree view of the gorge. The route I plan to take will have us starting at the base of Hawksbill, at the Spence Ridge trailhead where we'll make an arduously strenuous climb up the Ledge trail to Hawksbill to enjoy the view before heading back down the Ledge trail and then out to Table Rock via the Little Table Rock trail which will feature another strenuous climb up to the Table Rock summit. We will return to our cars via the MST which offers about a mile and a half of very pleasant hiking. Be prepared for a long day of hiking with two really tough climbs. After the hike, I intend to hold a social hour at Moondog's in nearby Morganton, NC - so please plan carpools accordingly. Participation limited to 10 people in accordance with Linville Gorge Wilderness ordinances. 8 miles, 3600ft elev. [R-44]
