Description: Day 1 (Monday, February 3) - Leave the Triad area for the Shining Rock Wilderness. Park at the Sam Knob parking lot accessible from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Hike 4.5 miles to Shining Rock Gap and establish camp. Day 2 (Tuesday, February 4) - Hike from Shining Rock Gap to Cold Mountain and return to camp, 8.1 miles. Day 3 (Wednesday, February 5) - Hike 4.5 miles from Shining Rock Gap to Sam Knob parking lot and return to the Triad. Three-day total miles: 17.2. Three-day total elevation gain: 4,700 feet.
