Description: This hike, led by different PHOC hike leaders throughout the year, has become a club favorite. It was christened by Vance Barron because it takes a meandering tour around the top of Stone Mountain over the park’s established trails, while also offering the added attraction of hiking an off-trail section from Black Jack to an old bridle path, getting a glimpse of a disabled still, and crossing a few streams before pausing to visit the Hutchinson homestead. This is a lollipop hike that starts and ends on the Mountain-to-Sea Trail (the stick of the lollipop) from the backpackers’ parking lot. This is a moderate, scenic, varied, and lengthy hike suitable for most hikers with some experience in mountain walking. Buyer’s beware-we will be crossing a couple of streams, which at this time of year, may be above ankle height. Poles are therefore strongly recommended.
