Description:
Among the hidden hollows and dales of Hanging Rock State Park lies this classic tributary of the Dan River – the Indian Creek. This hike will have us beginning at the nice and smooth graveled road at the end of Flincham Rd and will have us ascending Hanging Rock from far down below. We will hike up by the rushing falls hidden by the grace of the rhododendrons and mountain laurels. We’ll climb all the way to the top of Hanging Rock where we’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape and have lunch there before making our way back down the way we came. Please bring poles for creek crossings and be prepared to enjoy a gorgeous day at this near-to-home hike. If they are open, I plan to hold a social hour afterwards at the Green Heron to reward ourselves with a crisp trail-cap! 10 miles, 1620ft elev, [R-26]
