Description: This is a 2-night backpacking trip on the AT in Virginia to visit the Audie Murphy Monument and Dragon's Tooth. Only 3.0 miles of the distance will be with a backpack. 18.4 miles will be with a daypack. Thus the moderate rating. The first day will be 9.2 miles out and back from the cars parked at the AT Parking Area Trout Creek on Miller Cove Road (Route 620) to the Audie Murphy Monument with a day pack, then 1.5 miles from the parking area to the campsite at Pickle Branch with a backpack. Pickle Branch will be a base camp for the next day's hike 9.2 miles with a daypack out and back to Dragon's Tooth. The third day will be a 1.5 mile backpack to the cars and the return trip home.
