Description:
This is a reprise of a hike that, if I recall, has not been offered for more than three years, because access to its trailhead, off the Blue Ridge Parkway, was closed. This section of the Parkway has now been reopened and we can again enjoy this moderate to moderately challenging hike, which our late fellow hiker, David Memory, used to call “Scott Ridge Lite.” It is a lollipop with a short stick (the Sparta trail) and a fat misshapen head via the MST and Scott Ridge. It starts and ends at Milepost 234 off the Parkway. It is an overall moderate hike, with a short but steep ascent that connects the MST and Scott Ridge. It is an especially appealing hike in the summer because it is mostly shaded and with stretches of soft-to-the-feet terrain strewn with pine needles. It is suitable for anyone with experience in mountain hiking. But it is summer, which in our part of the world means hot an muggy … so please bring plenty of water laced with electrolytes. NOTE: Upon notification of your online registration, I will get in touch with you with meeting and carpooling options. And I will send a recapping email to all participants by 12:00 pm the day before the hike (Friday).
