Description: From Stone Mountain State Park - Upper Trailhead Parking this hike follows the Stone Mountain Loop Trail over the top of Stone Mountain down into the valley where it intersects with the Wolf Rock Trail. We follow Wolf Rock Trail past Wolf Rock, continue on Blackjack Ridge and connect to the Bridle Loop Trail. After a short walk we intersect the Out-and-Back Trail, which leads to the Lower Falls of Big Sandy Creek. Continuing on the Lower Falls Trail we cross Big Sandy Creek (poles are very useful!), make a quick side trip to the Middle Falls, and have lunch at Hutchinson Homestead. From there we follow the Stone Mountain Loop Trail again up to the peak of Stone Mountain and back to the parking lot. Most of the time the trail moves through wooded well-shaded terrain with the exceptions of the peaks of Stone Mountain and Wolf Rock. There we have wonderful outlooks and views but also full exposure to sun.
