Description:
Stone Mountain State Park, due to its proximity to the Triad and infinite variety of hiking routes, is always a favorite of PHOC hikers, be they flower-gazing strollers or die-hard mountain goats. I personally like to hike in the southern section of the park, because it is less traveled and give us the opportunity to hike along a refreshing stream, something especially appealing in the summer. The planned route is a meandering loop that will take us on bridle trails, past abandoned stills, to an old cemetery, across a few streams, up a sustained climb on Black Jack, and down an out-of-the way/unmarked connector trail. This is a very moderate hike for experienced hikers, and also suitable for all those who have had some experience with mountain hiking. NOTE: Upon notification of your online registration, I will get in touch with you with meeting and carpooling options. And I will send a recapping email to all participants by 12:00 pm the day before the hike (Friday).
