Description: Escape the heat and enjoy the wildflowers on this leisurely hike on the Blue Ridge Parkway with its wide, gently graded carriage trails! Beginning and ending at Cone Manor, the 10 miles consist of two 5 mile hikes: one to Flat Top Lookout Fire Tower and back, the second a loop hike around Bass Lake. We will break for lunch after the first 5 miles. The Manor House and Craft Center are open for visitors and offer free ranger led tours at 10:15 AM & 1:45 PM. Participants can choose whether to hike all 10 miles, or a 5 mile hike. There will be time for everyone who is interested to visit the Manor House. Afterwards, there is an option for ice cream at Kilwins at the nearby Tanger Outlets. Carpool available/leaving from Jonestown McDonald's in Winston-Salem at 7:45 AM.
Required Gear: Water & lunch or snacks. Poles are NOT needed for this hike, as the trails are level.
