Description:
Join us on Saturday, August 29, at 8:30 a.m. at the Kathleen Clay Edwards Public Library in Greensboro for a historic four-mile stroll along the Evergreen Trail, followed by a brief neighborhood walk connecting to the Guilford Woods Trail behind Guilford College. The hike will be led by Dr. Will Truslow, a member of Piedmont Land Conservancy’s Saving Guilford Woods Committee, and Jim Plant, manager of the Trail Adoption Program for the Uwharrie Trailblazers. Together, they will share insights into the rich history and ongoing preservation efforts surrounding one of Guilford County’s most significant natural areas. As you explore these treasured woodlands, Dr. Truslow will discuss the importance of protecting Guilford Woods for future generations. Learn about the Saura and Keyawee peoples who once inhabited the area, Revolutionary War skirmishes that took place nearby, and the freedom seekers who traveled through the woods along the Underground Railroad. Jim Plant will introduce hikers to the diverse hardwood trees and the native and invasive plant species that make this landscape both ecologically important and worthy of preservation. Come discover how history, nature, and conservation intersect in this remarkable setting.
