Description: The Mahogany Rock lollipop, aka Scott Ridge Lite, is back. As most of you know, the only access to this trail, from the Blue Ridge Parkway, was closed for many months. It is now open again and we have already checked it out a couple of times this year to make sure we would not encounter unpleasant surprises. This hike is overall moderate, with a short but steep ascent that connects the MST and Scott Ridge. Buyer beware: the short steep section is unmarked and often requires negotiating around fallen timber. The whole hike is mostly shaded, with stretches of soft-to-the-feet terrain strewn with pine needles, and a profusion of rhododendrons and mountain laurels lining the trails. It is suitable for anyone with experience in mountain hiking.
